get a mason jar, don't have one? go buy one.

finely slice your red onion

mix vinegar, water, sugar and salt in a microwave safe bowl (or you add it to a saucepan)

heat up in the microwave (with your microwave safe bowl) or on the stove with you saucepan until your vinegar water is steaming.

add onions to the mason jar

add peppercorns and chili flakes if your heart desires

add your heated up vinegar mixture to the jar.
put your lid on and wait at least an hour before eating
