Preheat oven to 450°

In a large bowl, add self rising flour. Cut up cold butter into cubes and mix into the flour until the consistency of course meal. I typically just crumble the butter cubes into the flour with my hands, but you can use a fork or pastry cutter.

Add the milk and stir until just combined. If the batter is very dry, add a little more milk until the consistency resembles a very thick batter. I think I add a cup of milk. Don't over mix. The batter will be quite lumpy.

Drop large mounds onto either a parchment paper, oiled baking sheet, or buttered cast iron skillet. The mounds can be touching on the sides. Bake 16-20 minutes until golden brown.
